Tetris Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
