Around 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, producing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Extensive Damage

Homeowners observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Meanwhile, around 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the region, mostly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Werribee region - saw considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing - various emergency calls
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
